Job summary/Role description

The CP Quality Engineer (min. certified as NACE/AMPP Level 3) shall be responsible for the inspection and certification of tasks related to cathodic protection. This role involves supporting the Field engineering manager, Construction Electrical/Civil Supervisors, and Commissioning Electrical Supervisors through different stages of the project until CP system handover. The engineer shall ensure planning, execution, documentation preparation, and handover to the client are performed in accordance with project requirements, including proper follow-up of installation, and functionality of CP systems.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities

The engineer's tasks are cross-functional, encompassing various responsibilities. Hierarchically dependent on the QAM, the engineer shall collaborate with Engineering, Construction, and Commissioning teams based on the priorities at hand and the project's phase. In coordination with the Site management and CP Specialist HO, the engineer is primarily responsible for the

following activities in both Greenfield and Brownfield areas:

• Shall guide the construction site supervisor (electrical / civil) to lead and monitor the workforce to ensure

quality execution of construction work.

• Monitor CP system installation to ensure adherence to ITP’s, method statements, and project

specifications.

• Handle Technical clarifications, Site Technical Queries (STQ’s), and concession requests, securing client

approvals.

• Manage vendor coordination for CP material supply, testing, and commissioning while optimizing in-house

supervision.

• In the case of material provided by the Subcontractor, he/she shall review the Material Approval Request

for final approval of FEM (PEM in absence of FEM).

• Review design documents, redline markups, and as-built records to reflect site conditions accurately.

• Identify and address technical issues in CP systems, including Transformer rectifier units, Cabling, Anode

beds, and Remote monitoring control system units during installation as well as during the commissioning

phase.

• Supervise and witness the field surveys, perform verification activities such as protective potential

measurements other CP parameters, and isolation/continuity testing to validate CP system effectiveness

up to Mechanical Completion.

• Raise and manage RFI, QAR’s (Quality Alerts), NCR’s (Non-Conformance Reports), and OSD’s (Over,

Short, Damaged Reports).

• Maintain comprehensive inspection reports, site observations, test results, and project documentation.

• As responsible for Inspection and Certification, he/she shall approve the Request for Inspection issued by

Subcontractor to be forwarded to Client when required. He/she shall sign the QC Report requested by the

Site Inspection Plan and grant that they are archived in MATERPAD.

• Utilize, when in place, project management tools and software, punch point management (D365).

• Ensure proper documentation and compliance audits for CP system installations

• Witness the activites of CP vendors and the commissioning team in executing the system Commissioning,

Direct current voltage gradient surveys (DCVG) and Close interval potential logging surveys (CIPS).

Person Specification

Knowledge & Qualifications

• University Degree or Diploma in Electrical or Chemical Engineering

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience preferably within the construction or oil and gas industry.
  • Relevant experience in 3 major EPC projects; oil & gas, petrochemical sector.
  • NACE/AMPP certified Cathodic protection technologist / technician (Minimum Level 3)
  • Applicants with a background in ARAMCO/SATORP-related roles are encouraged to apply.
  • Ability to read, understands, and interprets maps, blueprints, and engineering drawings
  • Ability to recognize malfunctions of electronic measuring devices
  • Ability to transfer readings from electrical measuring devices to charts or records
  • Ability to accurately use electrical measuring devices, such as volt meters, ohm meters, and signal generators
